How do I manage my item attributes?

The importance of your item attributes

To build your webshop it is important to think about the content structure of your products. How more organized, how easier it is to maintain your webshop.

You have your product key attributes, like EAN/GTIN and color and size, but there are a lot more possibilities to use. For the basics think about the following.

How would you like to group your products on a product detail page? Next to your EAN/GTIN maybe an attribute for grouping is also necessary. A common name used for this is a model number or generic code.  Mostly products are grouped by color and size.

• What would you like to use as product title on your landing pages and product detail pages.
• Would you like to use a larger description for more detail.
• Can you recognize the products by an attribute to filter them out for your separate landing pages in your navigation. (Example: category, subcategory. brand)
• Would you like your visitors to filter and sort on the landing pages. Which attributes are those and do you have those attributes per SKU/Gtin
• Maybe you have more specifications you would like to display on your product detail page.
• Do you have more than one product image you would like to show at your product detail page?
• If you have also a B2B shop, can you recognize the products which are only B2C?

Per SKU/Gtin these attributes should be available in your connecting source, like ERP or PIM.

You have a lot of product attributes, what is next?

• Tweakwise attribute; these attributes are exported to your Tweakwise instance. In Tweakwise you can use them for filtering and sorting your product landingpages, on site search and translations.
• B2C main property; these attributes you are using for grouping your product detailpage
• B2C details property; these attributes will appear on your product detailpage as product specification B2C label property; these attributes you can use as product labels in combination with your content CMS
• Youtube video ID; It is possible to add videos at your product detail page

• Item category containing product description; This is your long product description
• Item category containing the product title; product title
• Item category containing the product preface text; subtitle product

Filtering

With your attributes it is possible to filter your products on your website. You can choose to exclude (checked box) or include (unchecked box). A common one used is if a product is in stock or if you have also a b2b shop an attribute to recognize only b2c products.
